Renewable and low carbon technology is central to how we help clients across Cumbria meet their net zero targets. Saints Contracting designs and installs air source and ground source heat pumps, solar PV and battery storage, usually as part of wider decarbonisation projects that replace ageing gas or oil-fired plant in buildings that have to keep operating throughout.

Public sector estates across Carlisle and Cumbria are under real pressure to decarbonise heat, and grant-funded programmes have brought a lot of that work forward. We work with local authorities, care providers, leisure operators and commercial clients on the surveys, system design, installation and commissioning that turn a funding award into a building that actually runs on low carbon heat.

Because we deliver the mechanical and electrical works too, renewable systems are integrated properly with the rest of the building rather than bolted on. Heat pumps are sized against a real heat loss and a real flow temperature, buffer and distribution changes are designed in, the electrical supply and protection are upgraded to suit, and the controls strategy is written so that the low carbon plant leads and any retained boiler follows.

Cumbria's older, harder-to-treat building stock and exposed weather make that integration work matter more here than in most regions. A hybrid arrangement, a well-optimised control strategy and a properly commissioned system are often what separates a heat pump that saves carbon and money from one that does neither.

Renewables work is delivered under UKAS accredited ISO 14001 environmental and ISO 9001 quality management systems, by a Gas Safe registered and NAPIT approved team holding CHAS Elite and SSIP accreditation. Where existing plant is stripped out, that work runs under our Upper Tier waste carrier licence.
